4 Rituals That Will Make You Happy

Since I added the Lust List on Wednesday (catch the post here), I've decided to change my Friday Finds to encompass more lifestyle rather than fashion, starting with 4 Rituals That Will Make You Happy. Many of you might not know this about me, but aside from my full time job and blogging, I'm also a certified Yoga Instructor. I teach 4 times a week at Corepower and Hot 8 Yoga! Being an avid yogi, I'm always working on my mindfulness and always searching for ways to increase peace and happiness. I'm always researching and learning new things, and I recently came upon an article that merged mindfulness and neuroscience creating 4 scientifically backed ways to help increase your happiness. If you don't want to read the full article, I've summed it up for you here below!

 

 

 

1. Ask "What Am I Grateful For?"

 

Even if you feel like you have nothing to be grateful for, just searching for something to be grateful for can make your brain happy.

Finding gratefulness in yourself and expressing gratitude in others will make you happier. 

 

Tips for Success: I suggest making a daily gratitude checklist either in the morning right

when you wake up or at night before you go to bed!

 

2. Label Negative Emotions

 

Feeling sad? Angry? Upset? Not sure how you feel? It doesn't matter, just putting a label to that negative emotion

and recognizing that it's there rather than suppressing it will actually decrease it's impact on your brain!

 

Tips for Success: Simply put, describe a negative emotion you're

feeling in just a word or two will help reduce the emotion.

 

 

3. Decide. Make a Decision

 

Are you indecisive like I am? Even though making a decision can be hard, just making a good enough, not the absolute 100% best decision

and it can lessen the burden on your brain. Trying to have everything in control and perfect overwhelms your brain.

 

Tips for Success: Recognize that "good enough" is not you losing control, but rather gaining control.

 

 

4. Hugs. Lots of Hugs.

 

Touching is incredibly powerful. We just don’t give it enough credit. It makes you more persuasive, increases team performance, 

improves your flirting… heck, it even boosts math skills. Touching someone you love actually reduces pain. In fact,

when studies were done on married couples, the stronger the marriage, the more powerful the effect. Research

shows getting five hugs a day for four weeks increases happiness big time.

 

Tips for Success: Spend time with other people and give some hugs. Sorry, texting is not enough.
